Neurodiversity Affirming Therapy

Neurodivergent is a term that describes people whose brains develop or work differently for some reason. There are many ways in which thoughts, behaviors, and emotional responses can be neurodivergent and some examples of neurodivergence are Autism, ADHD, and learning disorders like dyslexia.

We seek to take an affirmative approach with our neurodivergent clients, meaning we foster an environment of acceptance and understanding while acknowledging and celebrating the diversity of neurological characteristics and conditions. While we understand that being neurodivergent is a natural human variation and not a disorder or something to be “fixed;” we utilize evidence based practices such as CBT and DBT tailored to neurodivergent individuals to help manage the symptoms and distress associated with neurodiversity.

While we acknoledge that some people in the neurodivergent community prefer to embrace the idea of self-diagnosis, we also assist with referrals to providers who offer psychological testing for those who would like a formal diagnosis.
